Mahabaleahwar is located in the Satara district of Maharashtra and is a famous cool place in Maharashtra, situated in the mountain ranges of Sahyadri. Mahabaleshwar is a high plateau in Sahyadri with an area of 150 square kilometers. It is surrounded by valleys on all four sides and its height is 1440 meters above sea level. The famous river Krishna of Maharashtra originates here. The legendary greatness of this river can be heard. The climate of Mahabaleshwar is always cool which is considered as excellent for the production of strawberry, so of course Mahabaleshwar is an ideal place for strawberry cultivation. Strawberries are produced here in huge quantities. Out of the total strawberry production in India, Mahabaleshwar alone produces 85% strawberries. Mahabaleshwar started to popular as a holiday destination of Bombay Presidency during the British period. Mahabaleshwar was famous as the summer capital of the British. Most of the British officers and their families resided here, so the British era is here.Old structures which constructed in British period still can be seen. The summer residence of the Governor of Maharashtra "Giri Darshan" is located here. It was the British who brought the famous strawberry here from Europe and started its further journey. Strawberries produced in Mahabaleshwar have received the GI (Geographical Indication) tag in 2010.

Venna Lake was built here in the year 1842. This lake is a man-made lake of Mahabaleshwar from which the river Venna originates. Venna Lake is famous for boating,various food stalls can be seen on the side of this lake.

Heavy rains are common here during monsoons. The fantastic natural environment throught the year, waterfalls, springs and pleasant atmosphere increasing the tourists number day by day.

Point Arthor Seat, Cates Point, Lord Vic Wilson Point, Elphinstone Point, Elephant Point, Lingamala Falls, are the major attractions, In addition, different hills and treking points are famous here.

Many places here have been named after the British because the British has popularized Mahabaleshwar. From the Connaught Peak point, we can see Pratapgad Fort and the view of Venna river.

There is an ancient Shiva temple in the old village, from which the five rivers Krishna, Koyana, Venna, Savitri and Gayatri originate. The joy of seeing the flow of water of these rivers is indescribable!

As Mahabaleshwar is a famous tourist destination, so there are too many hotels and accommodation available as per your budget with variety of food and drink options.

In Mahabaleshwar moderate rainfall happenes  throughout the year.This place you can visit in any season of the year, but mansoon is best to visit here.

How to come:

The nearest airport from Mahabaleshwar is Mumbai or Pune.

There is no train to Mahabaleshwar so the nearest railway station is Pune Railway Station.

Private buses, taxi, MSRTC buses etc. are easily available from Pune to Mahabaleshwar.

Apart from Pune, vehicles are available from nearby cities like Mumbai, Kolhapur, Satara, Pachgani etc.
