World TB Day 24 March 2023 - Infohindglish

World TB Day

Tuberculosis Day is celebrated every year in India as well as in the world on 24 March.

In the year 1882, Dr. Robert Koch discovered the bacteria that cause tuberculosis and also provided a way to diagnose and treat this disease.

Tuberculosis (TB) is the deadliest infectious disease in the world. Every day in the world more than 28 thousand people get sick from this preventable disease and more than 4100 people lose their lives due to tuberculosis. Since 2000, TB control efforts worldwide have saved an estimated 66 million lives. The covid-19 pandemic has come at a time when global efforts to eradicate TB have slowed down the process of TB eradication.

India has made TB eradication a priority and has increased its budget by up to 70 percent and called for ending TB by 2025.

TB may seem like an isolated disease, but one-third of the world's population is infected with the disease, often without the patient even knowing they have it.

How to avoid

TB is easy to test for, so if in doubt, get tested right away

Most of the time even the person suffering from this disease does not feel the symptoms of this disease so it is important to spread awareness about it.

Tuberculosis is neglected due to outdated misconceptions. Spreading awareness about the disease will help those at high risk seek treatment.

With proper care, vaccination and planning, we can see the end of this disease in the future.
